Expected Research // Centre for the Study of Networked Image, LSBU

Considering art as a privileged practice for the critical examination of digital and visual culture, the purpose of this research proposal is to investigate in depth the emerging challenges and transformations of the photographic image as a symbolic agent and as a medium for the (self)representation of social identity as produced and distributed in the Internet.

During her stay at London South Bank University, professor Remedios Zafra (University of Seville) will carry on research on the current theorisations of photographic image in relation to Identity, Art and Network Culture, continuing a line of research already present in many of her recent books and articles: “Ojos y capital” (Zafra, 2015), “Un cuarto propio conectado. (ciber)espacio y (auto)gestión del yo” (Zafra, 2010).

The current research will be articulated around the analysis of several issues, from among which the following might be highlighted:

-Photography, self-representation and identity in artistic practices about social networks.
-An autoethnography of social network.
-Bodies and gender representation and presentation in visual social networks. Analysis from Symbolic Antropology perspective.
