Applications Invited for Artist in Residence

Applications are invited for a new Artist in Residence programme at London South Bank University (LSBU). We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic person who is seeking time and access to resources to develop their practice and would benefit demonstrably from doing this within the practice, research and teaching culture at LSBU. The residency will be for 5 months, running from Oct 2019 to March 2020, cumulating in a public exhibition in Borough Road Gallery.

Photography at London South Bank University includes the BA(Hons) Photography programme, the South Bank Collective; a student run production agency, the Centre for the Study of the Networked Image; a research centre made up of photography staff and a wide circle of PHD researches, academics, curators and practitioners. These are based within the school of Arts and Creative Industries.

We are looking to support a practitioner and/or curator working in the area of expanded photographic practices to develop a new project or complete an existing project. Applications are particularly encouraged from those who are in their first 7 years of independent practice with some prior experience of exhibiting their work publically.

During the residency you will have access to the university production facilities including our 2 photographic studios and digital lab; A2 and A0 inkjet printers, Hasselblad Flextight scanner and large format dry mounting press, and moving image production and display equipment. You will have sole use of the Borough Road Gallery for 3-4 weeks in Feb/ March 2020, and a £1,000.00 production budget to be spent on the development and exhibition of work. The photography staff, all of whom are active practitioners, writers and researchers will be available to support you during the residency, both in the work you are making and in your interactions with students.

The Artist in Resident will contribute to the BA(Hons) Photography course through a mixture of workshops, artist talks, group and 1:1 tutorials for a maximum of one day a week over the 16 teaching weeks during the residency.

The Borough Road Gallery is located on Borough Road, in SE1. The gallery is 76 meters square, equipped with moveable walls, projector and lighting rig. It can be open to the public mon – fri 9am – 8.30pm.
