Internet folklore – Günseli Yalcinkaya

Join us on Wednesday 2nd April 2025, 15-17:00 at Borough Road Gallery, for a presentation by Günseli Yalcinkaya on Internet folklore. All welcome.

This discussion will explore Yalcinkaya’s ongoing practice of internet folklore, which can be defined as the study of emerging technologies, online culture, and the myths embedded within these systems. She will delve into recent developments in AI and quantum mechanics. In particular, how these are contributing to the pervading sense of unreality felt within society today such that Western science – or, at least, the technology supporting it – appears to be on a spiral path back to its mystical origins.

Günseli Yalcinkaya is a writer, researcher and internet folklorist currently based in London. Her practice spans internet culture and technology, with a particular focus on the myths and ideologies embedded within these systems. Yalcinkaya is Contributing Editor at Dazed, co-curator of Cybernetic Serendipity: Towards AI, a day-long symposium that took place at London’s ICA in February 2024, and has appeared in talks and panels at the Architectural Association, BFI, Central Saint Martins, London College of Fashion, Somerset House, Sónar+D, Unsound Festival, and X Museum.
