PhD researcher
Raquel Campos is an ethnomusicology researcher and arts administrator interested in new media and computer technologies. She holds a BA Hons in Sociology (2005) from the University of Granada, a certificate in Social Anthropology (2010) from the University of Barcelona and a MMus in Ethnomusicology (2013) from SOAS, University of London. She is currently working as Assistant Editor for IASPM@Journal. Before, she worked as administrator at the Royal College of Music in London and assisting in the production of live music events at Flussi Media Arts Festival in Italy and LEM Experimental Music Festival in Barcelona. She also administrated the European tours of Tinariwen and Buena Vista Social Club and was an online editor and press officer for World Music Network. She also participated in the first edition of the sound-mapping and sonic intervention project Hertziosfera/Sons de Gracia with Universitat Pompeu i Fabra in Barcelona. In addition, she has worked as Teaching Assistant at LSBU in the Convergent Media module and as a freelance language tutor.
Research
Raquel’s interests have been influenced by her involvement with the music industry and promoting the circulation of music content online. Her previous research analysed sharing video covers in social media as a communicative practice that creates a play area in music performance and consumption. Her master thesis looked at the social roles of music in videogaming and the relationships generated by music content in computer-based worlds. She is currently a PhD candidate at London South Bank University and is conducting ethnography towards her PhD thesis on the social meanings and uses of music activities in social media. Her interests lie in the fields of ethnomusicology, music ethnography and internet studies, particularly understandings of identity and community in the digital age and the sociality of migrant communities and their tools of communication. She likes dancing.
