Jon Uriarte

Artist, curator and educator

Jon Uriarte (Hondarribia, Spain) is an artist, curator and educator. He is curator of digital programmes at The Photographers Gallery in London, UK and curator of Getxophoto Image Festival in Getxo, Spain. He previously curated DONE, a programme launched by Foto Colectania in Barcelona, Spain, which examines the image in the post-digital and Internet era. 

His work has been exhibited in group and individual exhibitions at galleries and museums such as La Casa Encendida and El Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Studio 304 of New York, HBC center in Berlin or La Capella in Barcelona. He has been a guest researcher at MACBA’s Study Centre, and has worked as a digital photography consultant for the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia in the development of their Online Image Archive. 

As selected curator of Parallel Platform of European Photography, he curated the exhibition “Currents Shift” at Le Chateu D’Eau, Toulouse, France. He has also curated group and solo exhibitions as co-founder of Widephoto, an independent platform which organised workshops, performances and self-publishing related events in partnership with different institutions. Has coordinated the Off Festival and the Best Book Prize of PhotoEspaña, and founded the Photobook Club Barcelona. He has been tutoring photography projects of graduate and postgraduate students in IDEP, he has also worked as director of the Advanced Photography Postgraduate. 

He currently guest lectures and runs workshops in photography, film and design schools as EFTI, ESCAC, Labasad and Elisava. He regularly writes essays and reviews for magazines and specialised publications.
