Sound Designer / Educator
This workshop will explore the use of AI in sound editing using DaVinci Resolve Studio, with a focus on creative application and ethical concerns. Sound has historically been underrepresented in a society dominated by the primacy of the visual image. The medium’s intangible nature makes it elusive and difficult to define, yet it is a key component of how we perceive the world.

The process of working with sound is frequently diminished as a technical obstacle in the creative process. While artificial intelligence has facilitated certain tasks, its potential to foster a more comprehensive approach remains uncertain.
These themes will be explored through the lens of sound design for cinema and related media practices, along with broader implications for the balance between craftsmanship and productivity.
The workshop will provide a basic introduction to key concepts in sound analysis that underpin common AI tools, and provide a practical demonstration using DaVinci Resolve Studio.
You will learn how to:
- Understand core concepts in sound analysis that sit behind AI-assisted audio tools
- Enhance audio recordings for clarity and intelligibility (e.g., dialogue cleanup and noise reduction workflows)
- Use assistive editing features to speed up common tasks while keeping creative control
- Discuss ethical concerns in AI audio, including consent, attribution, and the craft/productivity trade-off
Requirements: Access to the software and headphones will be provided, although participants may wish to bring their own headphones.
